Why is Gunbreaker A Tank in FFXIV? –

In Final Fantasy XIV, there are two types of tanks. One is a Gunbreaker and the other is a Machinist. The Gunbreaker has a gun that shoots bullets while the Machinist has a machine gun. Why did Square Enix make these classes different?

Gunbreaker is a tank in Final Fantasy XIV. The game’s lore states that the first gunbreakers were created by the people of Ishgard to fight against dragons.

With the introduction of the Shadowbringers expansion, the Gunbreaker class was introduced to XIV. It was introduced as a tank mainly for role balance purposes, ensuring that players had as many choices as possible across the board.

The Gunbreaker assignment put me on an emotional roller coaster.

When I first began playing properly, it was already in the game, and I knew I wanted to live out all of my Squall Leonhart fantasies. Dammit, I wanted a Gunblade, but the showy, stupidly impractical weapon was tied to a job I’d always avoided.

Why would you want to take on the job of a tank? If anything goes wrong, they simply get screamed at, right?

Let’s simply keep playing DPS and waiting in the Duty Finder queue for up to half an hour. It’s great to have a Gunblade, but it’s even better to not get screamed at.

And I wasn’t alone in my dissatisfaction with the Gunbreaker’s tank assignment; many gamers expressed their dissatisfaction with the Gunbreaker’s tank assignment. Unsurprisingly, several individuals were outspoken about their displeasure, utterly baffled as to how it could possibly fit into a tank position.

I, too, was disappointed.

I’ve never been a fan of ranged or magical DPS, and none of the melee choices have ever piqued my interest. To cut a long tale short, I finally chose to take on the tank position solely for the purpose of playing the Gunbreaker, and I’ve been doing so ever since.

So let’s go through the formal (and rather tedious) reasons why Gunbreaker is a tank.

But we’ll also look at some of the reasons why switching to tanking in order to play Gunbreaker isn’t as frightening as it may seem!

What Is Gunbreaker’s Official Reason For Being A Tank?

The director of Final Fantasy XIV has given us a very specific response on this topic.

Yoshi-P said that the team intended to include some of the fan-favorite classes from the larger Final Fantasy series, among other things.

At the same time, they didn’t want to add another melee DPS to the mix when there were already so many.

Adding the Gunbreaker as a tank helps with overall role balance, so let’s take a look at the statistics and see what happens.

You have four viable choices if you wish to play a melee DPS:

– Stealthy, mysterious Ninjas – Fist-fighting Monks – Spear-wielding Dragoons – and, of course, Samurai.

Prior to the introduction of Gunbreaker, tanks had three options: Paladin, Warrior, and Dark Knight, which debuted with the first expansion Heavensward.

Gunbreaker’s addition as a tank avoids the imbalance of choices from worsening.

Tanks now have as many choices as DPS players, and individuals who would never have considered tanking before are attracted to it by the interesting new class.

Looking at the classes in the Endwalker expansion, you can see how this balances out.

The Sage will be a new healer, while the scythe-wielding Reaper will be a new melee DPS.

To make up for all the gamers that felt left out in the cold, they’ve created the new DPS even edgier than the Gunbreaker.

XIV wants everyone to have about the same number of choices, regardless of whatever position they play.

I’d want to be a gunbreaker, but I’m not interested in tanking!

Let me tell you something: I’ve been there.

But here’s the thing: Here’s the thing:

As a Gunbreaker, tanking most stuff in Final Fantasy XIV is almost indistinguishable from DPSing.

You do have a few additional duties, to be sure.

There are, however, additional benefits.

Tanking seems to be stressful since you are the de facto leader of every group you find yourself in by default.

Because you pull the mobs, determine where they face, and most of the time, control where the boss encounters go, you dictate the tempo.

If you die, it’s probable that everyone else will as well.

And it seems to be a very demanding job to play.

But, on a more practical level, there are just a few things you must perform at all times as a tank to succeed in most engagements.

Let’s go through a short checklist to demonstrate how simple it is:

Do you have your tank stance on?

Gunbreaker’s is named Royal Guard, and every tank has one. You’re tanking, so congrats.

Your strikes will create a lot more aggro than the rest of the group, so opponents should be paying attention to you right now.

Keeping that focus is as simple as attacking normally.

Are You Up Against A Boss?

Is that boss always turned away from the rest of the party? This is crucial.

Maintaining the monster in the other direction wipes off a significant amount of damage to the group.

Are You Protecting Yourself From Incoming Damage?

Particularly when it comes to defensive cooldowns like Camouflage.

Tankbuster attacks are usually typically used by bosses, and they inflict a large amount of damage to the victim, who should be you.

You may reduce the effect of these strikes by identifying them on the boss’s cast bar and using a protective ability.

Aside from those three major aspects, tanking in regular content is much the same as tanking in DPS content.

You’ll be alright if you know your rotation and have a rudimentary knowledge of which glowy circles you should avoid and which you should sprint through.

There are many advantages to playing a tank.

Queues will no longer be as long as they are now. Say goodbye to half-hour lines — queuing like a tank will take minutes, or even seconds, depending on the situation.

You’ll also be eligible for further benefits.

The Adventurer in Need feature provides additional experience and gil to players who join as a chosen position.

If you play a lot of dungeons, these benefits may really mount up, and they’re generally active for tanks in my experience.

So there’s clearly some added pressure on you to remain alive, since if you die, the boss will go on to the rest of the group, who don’t have as much health as you have.

This may sometimes result in a party wipe, although it isn’t always the case.

However, the tank/healer relationship essentially cancels out that strain.

In most cases, if you follow the basic procedures above, the healer will prioritize your health above everyone else’s.

You will, indeed, be the focus of hostile attention.

But you’ve got a lot of people on your side to help you cope with it.
