Anime has a long history of loner characters that prefer to spend their time by themselves. These characters are often misunderstood, but they usually have a strong sense of justice and morality. They don’t want to make friends or interact with others, because they believe the world is too cruel for them.

Loner characters in movies are an interesting topic. They usually have a lot of personal issues that they need to work through, but when they finally come out on the other side, they are better for it.

The outcast.

This is a typical anime character type.

They may be agitated at times, withdrawn at other times, or lack social skills altogether.

However, many of them just want to be left alone, and they are often irritated when people approach them too closely.

They may ultimately open up their hearts, but it will take time.

However, this does not imply that they are constantly alone. Or that they’re only content when they’re left alone.

But they’re a bit of an introvert, or maybe they’re simply shy around people.

Whatever their motivations for living as a lone wolf, I believe they may be interesting characters when portrayed properly.

Let’s take a look at these loners, from the edgelords to the social misfits.

Saitama is number one.

One Punch Man is a Japanese anime series.

He’s a hero for the sake of it, but he’s also a loner.

Since he became a hero, Saitama has simply kind of gone about his business.

Though he and his friends and fans get themselves into some wild situations on a daily basis, Saitama simply wants a nice thrill and a peaceful night at home every now and again.

When everything is said and done, Saitama seems to be more of an introvert than any sort of edgelord.

Regardless, he’s a strong start to the list.

2. Guts

Guts from Berzerk

Berzerk is a Japanese anime series.

Guts is an outcast for a variety of reasons.

Betrayal, a desire not to put others in danger, and a general lack of feeling are all valid causes.

Guts is conflicted as well. And there are certainly ethically dubious situations.

Despite this, he tries to do the right thing, and I consider him a decent lone wolf.

Besides, with a sword like his, it’s hard to argue that he needs too many more allies in a battle.

Kazuma Yagami is number three on the list.

Kazuma Yagami from Kaze no Stigma

Kaze no Stigma is a Japanese anime series.

Kazuma is a wind contractor who comes from a family that values fire above all else.

And he has more than a few compelling reasons to keep to himself.

His family abandoned him, leaving him to fend for himself after he struck a deal with a creature that granted him wind abilities – powerful enough for him to use on his own.

Despite the fact that the tale motivates him to work with his family again, he harbors animosity against them and seems to want to go back to his own company as soon as possible.

Saiki Kusuo is number four on the list.

Saiki Kusuo from Saiki K

Saiki K is an anime series created by Saiki K.

Saiki is an entertaining character.

He has psychic abilities but does not seem to desire them.

Because of this unusual talent, he feels compelled to isolate himself from people in order to avoid being disturbed.

Despite his best efforts to be alone, he is often drawn into some sort of prank that forces him to break out of his shell, if only for a little while.

5. Hei

Hei from Darker Than Black

Darker Than Black is a Japanese anime series.

One of the most intriguing characters I’ve watched in a long time.

Hei is a figure who makes a concerted effort to be alone. He does, however, have very excellent reasons.

Contractors, his “people,” are frequently thought to be emotionless since they must occasionally commit terrible things to obtain and utilize their abilities.

It’s enough to make anybody a loner if they live in a dismal future when the stars no longer sparkle in the sky.

Hei, on the other hand, takes it to a new level by attempting to isolate himself from others.

Seto Kaiba, no. 6

Seto Kaiba from Yu-Gi-Oh

Yu-Gi-Oh! is a Japanese anime series.

Seto Kaiba is a legendary figure.

Except when it comes to a children’s card game, he has so much money that he doesn’t care about the rules.

He doesn’t have any pals and just has a little sibling whom he seems to care about.

He just wants to be the greatest duelist on the planet.

And he’ll utilize his enormous wealth to amass as many strong cards as possible in order to accomplish that objective.

Honestly? He’s a riot of a character, and it’s a joy to watch him.

He tossed trade cards like shurikens to deter thugs from disrupting a battle, as if he needed to flex any more after stopping a pistol aimed at his head with a playing card.

I adore this moron.

Allen Walker is number seven.

Allen Walker from D. Gray Man

D. Gray Man is an anime series created by D. Gray Man.

I had actually forgotten about D. Gray Man when I was thinking of characters to add to my list since it had been years since I had watched it.

Allen, on the other hand, is a great example of a loner.

He travels with a lot of people, yet he despises receiving assistance. And when it comes to depending on others, he’s a stickler.

Granted, he matures throughout the course of the series, but it’s a gradual process.

And, although I wouldn’t call him cruel, he does desire nothing more than to be self-sufficient.

8. Viral

Viral from Gurren Lagann

Gurren Lagann is a Japanese anime series.

Viral used to run with the other beastmen on the surface as a previous adversary of the main protagonists in Gurren Lagann.

However, he is cursed with immortality as a result of the events.

This curse makes him feel very alone, regardless of who he is around.

They just do not get the situation he is in.

Viral (like with many of the other characters in Gurren Lagann) is so beautifully written that you begin to question why he began fighting in the first place.

Todoroki Todoroki Todoroki Todoroki Todoroki Todorok

Shouto Todoroki from MHA

Boku no Hero Academia is a Japanese anime series.

Todoroki’s upbringing was filled with adversity.

He was abused and had to be separated from his siblings and, ultimately, his mother.

Though he ultimately becomes friends with Midoriya, Ida, and a few others, he still prefers to stay to himself and isn’t much of a socialite.

And I can’t say I blame him.

It’s probably what he’s accustomed to. And it’s what he believes he’s earned after all this time.

I pity him for the circumstances that lead to his being in such a lonely situation.

10. Scar

Scar from FMAB

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is a Japanese anime series.

In an alchemical environment, a guy who despises alchemy?

It’s more probable than you would imagine.

Scar, on the other hand, is just interested in revenge and vigilante justice.

His people were murdered, and as a result, he’s taken on the task of assassinating those he considers deserving of his wrath – or those who were complicit in the devastation of his home.

Scar, like every vigilante figure, is ethically ambiguous.

You may or may not agree with his actions, but sometimes the justifications he uses to accomplish his ideal of justice come at a high price.

11. Ryuko

Ryuko from Kill la Kill

Kill la Kill is a Japanese anime series.

Despite the fact that she has a friend in Mako and her family, Ryuko has been a loner since she was a little child and saw her father’s death.

She’s been on a quest for justice ever since, trying to figure out who the perpetrator is.

And to get there, she needs to battle her way past a lot of people.

This includes people who were not directly engaged.

Despite her revenge mission, she isn’t completely cold to others… However, she is not the most open to new individuals and is often suspicious.

12. Ginko

Ginko from Mushishi

Mushishi is a Japanese anime series.

Ginko seems to be the kind that is generally a loner as a result of his circumstances.

It’s simply how he like to do things.

He travels the globe, exploring and taking in the sights.

Though he travels alone for the most of the time, he may sometimes stop at a hamlet or come across someone who may need his assistance – and he will give it for as long as he is able.

He seems to appreciate the peace and isolation that comes with being a wanderer, unlike the majority of the individuals on this list.

This is a welcome breath of fresh air for a character of this kind.

13. L

L from Death Note

Death Note is a Japanese anime series.

L is nearly entirely self-employed.

Or, at the very least, he did before the events of Death Note.

This is also well-described, given that no one outside of the police knows what he looks like.

He isn’t much of a talker. And friendship is something he suffers with since he is nearly entirely focused on his job.

He isn’t completely chilly, either.

But he has a lot of peculiarities that make others wonder why he behaves the way he does.

Kanade Tachibana (14), Kanade Tachibana (14), Kanade

Kanade Tachibana from Angel Beats

Angel Beats is a Japanese anime series.

Kanade’s knowledge of being alone is one of the few things she has in her life.

She has no recollection of her previous life.

And now that she’s in the school’s purgatory, she’s been given angelic abilities in order to keep the other pupils in line.

The most sad aspect of her tale is that she has no alternative way of life – and when she finally joins the other students, it is obvious that she has no idea how to make friends.

Aomine Daiki (nineteen)

Aomine Daiki from Kuroko no Basuke

Kuroko no Basuke is a Japanese anime series.

“I am the only one who can defeat me.”

This famous statement from Aomine emphasizes how he views himself as superior to others in the sport he plays.

Aomine is a very talented basketball player who used to like the game – until he discovered that collaborating with others was pointless since he was so good.

He had lost interest in the sport.

And he began to withdraw, never showing up for practice and just showing up to win games.

That was the only thing people respected him for any more.

To be honest, losing enthusiasm for the thing you loved most in the world and then pushing yourself to drive people away because you’re scared of being burned again is a little depressing.

16. Mugen

Mugen from Samurai Champloo

Samurai Champloo is a Japanese anime series.

Mugen is a real jerk.

He has hot-headed and violent tendencies, and he mainly roamed the globe alone until teaming up with his new friends.

His failure to establish genuine friendships with the other members of his group at first demonstrates how used to being alone he is.

He has no qualms about pushing people away for his own ends – or for a little quiet.

And, at least at the start of the episode, he’s just traveling with his gang in order to remain alive.

Spike Spiegel (#17)

Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop

Cowboy Bebop is a Japanese anime series.

Given his terrible history with his lost love and a foe who is always attempting to murder him whenever he sees him, it’s no surprise that Spike prefers the solitude of being alone.

Though he traveled with Jet for a time, their connection was mostly professional.

They became close from time to time, but he always maintained a safe distance.

And as the crew of the Bebop grew, Spike became more irritated, as though he didn’t want to add to the turmoil already present in his life.

Rei Ayanami, Rei Ayanami, Rei Ayanami,

Rei Ayanami from Neon Genesis: Evangelion

Neon Genesis: Evangelion is a Japanese anime series.

Rei has no choice but to be the way she is.

She was born that way, and the ones who gave her life to her want her to stay that way.

When it comes to dealing with other people, Rei seems to be completely emotionless.

But that’s the only way she knows how to engage.

She’s straightforward and truthful, and she doesn’t seem to have any emotions.

She’s also a scarred and protected kid who’s been forced to pilot a mech against unfathomable odds in order to rescue the planet.

It’s no surprise she has difficulty communicating with others…

Yuuta Togashi, Yuuta Togashi, Yuuta Togashi

Yuuta Togashi from Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!

Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! is an anime.

Many children feel ashamed of their pasts.

Some had legitimate reasons, while others were just being children.

Yuuta is a good example of the latter.

He used to be a chuuni himself, and he loved pretending to be a Dark Flame Master, even at school.

He now want to be free of his past, yet it pursues him nevertheless.

Though he does his best to play the loner who simply wants to live a regular life, there’s no denying that a part of him revels in the sheer childish pleasure of the chuuni existence he can’t escape.

20. Bete

Bete from Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls In a Dungeon?

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Anime: Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?

Bete is a tsundere in the traditional sense.

He’s arrogant, boastful, and disrespectful to those he considers to be inferior to him.

Plus, unless he’s forced to, he doesn’t put any effort into cooperation.

However, after you’ve earned his respect by demonstrating that you’re not simply another adventurer, he begins to exhibit interest – even if he denies it.

And once you’re inside, the fractures begin to appear.

His reclusive image will gradually morph into one of respect and, in some instances, competitiveness.

The 5’0 anime characters are those that have been created to be loners. They just prefer solitude and aren’t really into socializing with other people.
